Air 2000

You will need to be naturally outgoing,

You will need to be between 21 and 40 years of age and not

Operations Co-ordinator

Based within ground operations, the key purpose of the
Ground Operations Co-ordinator (GOC) is to work closely with our service partners to meet Air 2000’s high expectations of customer service and punctuality.
GOCs prepare flightdeck and cabin crew paperwork and oversee the smooth running of
check-in and boarding for our passengers, in addition to supervising the cleaning and
preparation of the aircraft between landing and takeoff. Duties include liaison with our
Operations Department, handling agents and contracted agencies to ensure the highest
levels of customer care for our passengers during their time at the airport. The job can
be very demanding, yet also rewarding, and you must be able to think quickly on your feet.
Candidates should hold a full current driving licence, be resourceful, motivated and
willing and able to work a flexible shift roster. Previous aviation experience is not
essential, but is preferred as is working experience with the general public.

Career Opportunities

Our main operational base is at Manchester Airport with
Flight Operations, Human Resources, Customer Services and Engineering based there. Our
Training Centre is located at Manchester Airport.

Our main administrative base is situated not far from
Gatwick Airport, at First Choice House, Crawley, West Sussex, where our Finance, Corporate
and Commercial departments are based. There are financial, commercial planning, in-flight
retail, general administrative and other professional positions frequently available
within these departments.

The types of position at Manchester and Crawley, in
addition to a few ground staff and engineering roles at our other bases, are mainly office
based and range from administrative and technical, to professional and managerial. In
order to give you a broad overview of what each of our departments is responsible for, we
have given you some further information below:


This department oversees all areas which have a direct
interface with the customer, ranging from dealing with passengers’ requests, to managing
our Airport bases, to providing administrative support for our cabin crew. Significant
emphasis is placed on operational management and control in a busy aviation environment.

Posts range from Administrators and Customer Relations
Executives, to Airport Managers and In-flight Services roles.

Some direct experience of dealing with customers is
essential for the majority of posts in this area. Any training you have had in this and in
related areas will be an added advantage.

The primary role of our Engineering department is to
ensure that our aircraft are available in the right condition, at the right place and at
the right time. The safety aspect is paramount and they also have the responsibility to
provide safe and comfortable aircraft for flying our passengers to and from their
destination, in addition to determining how our aircraft should look, both internally and

Our CAA-licensed engineers are involved in all aspects of
both aircraft maintenance management and powerplant management, and previous engineering
experience is vital to work in these areas. Following our pending expansion into the
long-haul market, Air 2000 has this year taken the exciting
step of setting up its own line maintenance stations at five additional UK bases. From May
1998, fully trained and experienced Air 2000 engineers will
maintain our aircraft at Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle.

However, there are other areas where formal engineering
qualifications are not required. For example, our Technical Records Clerks are responsible
for entering important technical data onto our computer system. The Planning and
Production section produces our comprehensive aircraft maintenance schedules. In addition,
there is the Materials section which manages the complex task of ensuring that we have the
right spares available at the right place and time, to maintain our aircraft in
first-class condition. Although previous experience is not always necessary for employment
in those areas, you will need to be computer literate.

Operations (MANCHESTER)

“Jetset Ops” provides a 24 hour, 365 days a year
‘flight watch’ service and monitors and co-ordinates the progress of all our flights. Our
daily programme is adjusted as necessary to take account of delays, technical problems or
inclement weather, in conjunction with Crewing and Rostering who plan our cabin crew and
flight deck working schedules.

Rostering Officers, who assist in the production of all
aircrew roster’s, need good organisational skills and must be able to work under pressure.
Crewing Officers operate on a shift basis and maintain all Air 2000
aircrew roster’s, use computers extensively and need good communications skills and

Previous experience in aviation is advantageous but not
essential. Our Operations Controllers work shifts and deal with the flying programme on
the day and deal with any changes, such as weather, delays and Air Traffic Control
problems. Previous experience in this field is vital, as you will be required to think on
your feet and react constantly to changing situations.

All pilot training and recruitment is undertaken by the
Flight Operations department. There are administrators and safety trainers, who need to
have excellent knowledge of safety and emergency procedures, there are also specialised
areas who develop the most cost-effective routes for our aircraft to fly, which requires
previous experience.

Resources (MANCHESTER)

This department provides professional advice and support
to all line managers on matters such as employment law, terms and conditions and HR
policies. HR is responsible for training and development, co-ordinates ground staff
recruitment and induction, and oversees our Staff Travel Department which enables staff to
take advantage of discounted travel opportunities. Although a small team, we would
normally expect applicants to be educated to degree level and, ideally, to be
professionally qualified via the Institute of Personnel and Development.


Our Commercial department’s key responsibilities are to
plan and sell the airline’s flying programmes each season, to communicate these within and
outside the airline to agents and to manage the supply of charter seats to our sister
company First Choice Holidays and Flights. The department works closely with all other
departments, but particularly so with our Operations, Engineering and Finance departments,
to ensure well-planned and profitable flying programmes. It also works closely with both
the internal and external customers and also external providers of aviation.

Previous aviation experience is invaluable in this key
area as is good business acumen, numeracy, commercial and operational awareness.

Services (CRAWLEY)

The In-flight Retail, department is responsible for the
provision of our duty free and gift ranges on the aircraft, as well as in-flight
entertainment in the form of our videos and magazines. Our In-flight Catering department
is also primarily based here.

If you are interested in either of these areas, you should
have excellent attention to detail and be able to work on your own initiative and under
pressure. Previous retail/catering experience would be an advantage.


Providing accurate financial information for Air 2000, the Finance department ensures that we have the best
financial controls in place.

All the typical financial functions are incorporated,
including payroll, cashiers and company accounts. In addition, we have employees who
calculate and analyse all flight costs and bar accounts.

Numeracy and accuracy are vital in all our financial
roles, in addition to good computer skills. For higher level posts, including Financial
Accountants, we ask for recognised accountancy qualifications.
